I have decided that I will strive to wear modern Filipiniana pieces every Monday. I mean, at least as much as I can! When I say "Filipiniana", it means that I will wear pieces that are inspired by Filipino traditional dress and clothing. Modern Filipiniana will usually mean a modern "Barong" or "Terno" and I pretty much have been shopping for many versions of these in the last five years or so! Why not incorporate them in my everyday outfits? For this Monday, I am wearing a lady Barong.
A Barong is actually a Filipino male's traditional formal top that is usually made of pineapple fiber, and it is made to withstand hot weather. It is usually worn in formal occasions like weddings. However, more and more Filipino designers and brands have been making female versions of these and I am really loving it! I got this female Barong a couple of years ago at a local art fair and I have been wearing it nonstop! I've taken it to Seoul and Paris and it has also been worn so many times. I just think it is so chic. My favorite way to style it is casually with denim jeans, which I am doing in this very outfit. I am wearing it with a bag that is locally made and shoes from my shoe line. The earrings I am wearing are also a local find!
