5 Ways To Style All Black Looks PLUS 11 Different Outfit Ideas

I've always been into wearing all black looks. I find that nothing could be more chic or more slimming than wearing head to toe black. And it looks good on practically anybody. However, in the past years, I have noticed that all black outfits have been used more and more as uniforms. From ushers to club bouncers and events management teams, I noticed they have tendencies to dress up all in black especially for night events. Not that it's a bad thing but it just makes it harder to set yourself apart and also to make the look unique and wholly your own. With that I've been inspired to come up with a blog post about how to style up all black looks. I've also been gathering some inspiration from every corner of the web and have an ongoing Pinterest board that has pins of different style setters and how they styled up their all black looks. If you want, you can follow me on Pinterest or just check the board out for more inspiration. If Pinterest is not your thing, then fear not for this blog post I have come up with 5 ways to style up your all black outfits plus eleven, YES eleven (!) outfit ideas too! Check it out.

1.Punch it up with accessories that are unique to your style.

These accessories could be in the form of belts, statement earrings , necklaces, scarves and brooches. Just wear your favorite ones and make this look YOU.

Outfit 1 : Black shorts + black top + a black blazer and styled with this gorgeous handmade necklace that I got from Nepal.

Outfit 2 : A black cardigan + black trousers + black belt + black headband. Though the belt is also black, it still breaks up the monotony of the outfit and makes it look more interesting. This is one hack I learned from some style setters found in my pinterest board that I mentioned, check out Jackie O's outfit!.

Outfit 3 : Black shorts + brown belt + black turtleneck top + wooden brooch. Don't be afraid to do double accessories - just like in this case with both a brooch and belt.

 2. Play around and mix contrasting silhouettes

I'm an avid follower of Karen Brit Chick on Youtube and one of her series is checking out the actual street style in New York. I noticed that some of the people on the streets wearing all black outfits look way more interesting because they are playing around with contrasting silhouettes! It is is so interesting to see this side of all black dressing, I mean I'm sure I have done it but I never really gave it a second thought. So now I want to experiment more with this technique. This could be styled with like a super poofy blouse plus trousers in an interesting cut or mixing a modern asymmetrical skirt with a boxy shaped top and so on. It's basically like adding more dimensions to your outfits despite the monochromatic color.

Outfit 4 : Vintage pleated skirt + top with trapeze like sleeves + belt. I like how the pleated skirt sort of billows out and the sleeves are this sort of irregular shape, they contrast together quite nicely and make the outfit more insteresting I topped it off with a black belt again just to break it up and create some sort of shape.

Outfit 5 : Jogger pants + puffy sleeves + heeled pumps. I never thought i would wear pants like these but I love how they look with heels! These pants are an example of a not-so-usual silhouette. I paired it with puffy sleeves so the whole outfit has more dimensions.

3. Adding small pops of color

Of course one of the most obvious and common ways to dress up black looks is to add a pop of color! This could be your shoes or any of your accessories. Or even a bold red lipstick!

4. Modern and unique silhouettes

Outfit 10 : Midi dress with interesting cuts and sleeves. I found this COS dress on a trip to New York last year (on super sale!) and I was so drawn to the shape! I love the sort of relaxed fit yet it has all these interesting lines and cuts. I've never owned a dress like it and I am so in love with it! My goal is to find more dresses like these - timeless but with unique design elements in it.

5. Mixing different fabric and materials

I don't really have a lot of clothing items in different kinds of materials - I live in the tropics so majority of my clothes are lightweight or in cotton. I would so love to wear a leather skirt paired with a silk shirt but that's pretty much impossible to sport in the heat and humidity. In my case, the materials I mixed are mesh plus that same pleated skirt in outfit number 4 (not sure what material it is but its definitely different from mesh so I guess it works!). Some other examples would be to mix, say leather pants with a sequined top or a satin/silk shirt with wool pants. There are many possibilities, you just have to keep playing with different materials because these can also add more dimension to your all black outfits

Outfit 11 : Super old mesh top + pleated skirt + kitten heel mules
